Minnesota Issues

The 2007 legislative session has begun! Please check out our legislative page to see which bills we're tracking.

Gangs in Minnesota

There is increasing gang activity in MN. Please ask your rep to introduce a bill to make gang graffiti a gross misdemeanor and a felony if the damages are $500 or over. Right now they are getting off easy, especially if they are a juvenile. These are not harmless gangs, they are very violent. We need to get tough before it gets out of hand like it is in Calif and Texas. In San Antonio it is currently a felony if the damage is over $500.

No Government Funding for Open-Borders Groups

Centro Campesino - Why did this radical pro-open borders group who said hate slurs at their rallies and advocates for illegal aliens receive a $300,000 public health grant

Should groups that advocate against American enforcing its own laws be funded by American taxpayers?

Centro Campesino  puts on marches and rallies to demand things such as   "an immediate stop on all raids and deportations

If you don't think that anti-law enforcement, pro-illegal alien groups should recieve government funding, please call your state representatives.

Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act

Minnesota needs to apply for section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act which authorizes the secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to enter into agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies, permitting designated officers to perform immigration law enforcement functions.

Sanctuary Cities

In cities with sanctuary ordinances, such as Minneapolis and St. Paul, police officers are prohibited from questioning, arresting or detaining any person for violations of federal civil immigration laws except when immigration status is an element of the crime. These ordinances violate federal law and provide protection for criminal behavior in our two largest cities which compromises public safety statewide.

MINN-SIR supports Governor Pawlenty's proposals to override existing sanctuary ordinances and prohibit local units of government from restricting the ability of public safety officials to inquire about immigration status and enforce immigration laws. We also support his plan to create a team of ten state law enforcement agents who will serve as the Minnesota Illegal Immigration Enforcement Team (MIIET). These officers will obtain additional training and receive dual jurisdiction to enforce federal immigration laws. Please contact your state representatives and ask them to support Gov. Pawlenty's enforcement plans.

The Impact of Illegal immigration on Minnesota

Governor Tim Pawlenty's report from the office of Strategic Planning & Results Management. Illegal immigration costs the State of Minnesota approximately $180 million per year!
